Saturn – Astrology's Benefic teacher or harsh taskmaster

The astrological planet Saturn gets bashed by most astrologers as a malefic planet.  I think most astrologers are wrong.

Did you ever have a tough teacher in school or college?

The one who refused to accept adequate and challenged you to strive for excellent?  The one who set what seemed an impossibly high bar and demanded that you hurdle it and wouldn’t except any excuses for failure.  The one who awarded you with an A or B at the close of the semester and made you feel immense pride because you knew you earned that grade with every drop of sweat you shed.

If you know that teacher, then you already understand Saturn.   The reason why some folks call it a malefic is because, yes, Saturn is an unfailingly demanding, except no excuses planet – which is exactly why Saturn is really an undercover benefic planet.

Let’s talk about why and start by looking into Saturn’s mythological and celestial meanings to drive our understanding.

I'm still here

Hi all.  I'm still here and blogging but have let myself get caught up in work projects.  I'll be returning to regular posts very soon though.  Here are some of my pending topics:

  • An animal totem description of Aries.
  • Saturn

Saturn's one of my friends so you may see a different view of the planet when I release my article.  It's one of the planets that keeps my airheaded self grounded.

I'm also open to topic ideas from anyone.  Let me know you're interests and we can see if we have convergence!

Pisces’ big cat nature – the right use of power

I’ve been looking forward to writing about Piscean animal totems because I love the paradox of the choices.  The traditional animal totem for Pisces is, of course, the fish.

Count me as someone who hates the tradition because I believe it completely misses the true nature of Pisces.

Too many astrologers describe Pisces as a sickening saccharine or airy fairy sign and they fail to do it justice.  What Pisces really is a mighty hunter – versatile and multi-dimensional.

That’s why I prefer to use a big cat as a Piscean totem.

Here’s the interesting thing though.  If you insist on associating Pisces with a fish totem, then I think something like a dolphin or Orca is much more on target.  Even then, some of the dolphiny descriptions of Pisces overlook the true nature of Flipper.  Because they, like the big cats, are also predators.

Go figure, huh.

What that means to me is that Pisces is really a sign that is strong and fierce – and yet because of its duel nature, it is also capable of great gentleness.  That’s the Piscean nature I’m writing about today.

Aquarius – A raccoon’s eye view

Aquarius gets such a bad rap as Mr. Spock, yet that characterization fails to give Aquarius his due.

Here's another perspective on Aquarius -- from a raccoon's eye view -- that I think is more on target...

States of mind – the cadent astrological houses

I spend a lot of time thinking about thinking and if you have a number of planets in the cadent houses of your natal horoscope then you probably do too.  Even if you don’t ponder thinkables, though, you still have four cadent houses in your own horoscope that influence your states of mind.

It's interesting the way the cadent houses and states of mind relate to one another.  Since the cadent houses are all about learning, let's see what they tell us about our states of mind -- our conscious, unconscious, superconscious, and subconscious....
